Roast Beef - Antonelli's Deli

Photobucket

Another Antonelli's favorite is the roast beef. This sandwich is simple -- multiple layers of meat, your choice of cheese, thinly sliced lettuce and tomato atop their freshly baked french bread with mustard and mayo. The roast beef is a little on the rare side, but that's okay with me. Try it with pepper jack!

The Original Grinder - The Grinder

Photobucket

I've been eating at The Grinder for as long as I can remember. I always get "The Original Grinder" with everything -- ham, salami, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pepperoncinis, salt & black pepper, oil & red vinegar on a 12" roll. Like they say, "A meal in itself."

Turkey - Antonelli's Deli

Photobucket

Antonelli's turkey sandwich is my favorite in San Diego. I've been eating this beast about once a week for the past five years. The key to this sandwich is multiple layers of shaved oven roasted turkey and thinly sliced lettuce and tomato atop their freshly baked french bread. It comes with swiss cheese and mayo and I always add sprouts.

Pastrami - Artie's Deli

Photobucket

Artie's Deli serves my favorite pastrami Reuben sandwich in NYC. From the secret blend of seasonings to the aging period, to the steaming and slicing... this is perfect pastrami. The Reuben features a mob of Swiss cheese melted atop a hefty pile of sauerkraut and Russian dressing. Heaven on rye bread. And if you're in the mood for something not quite as heavy, you can't go wrong with the matzo ball soup and their handmade hot dogs. Loaded with flavor, the hot dogs are some of the best I've ever had. And while you're at it, do yourself a favor and try the potato salad and get a knish. Next time you're in the Upper West Side (or anywhere in the city), visit this place.

Pulled Pork - Chowning's Tavern

Photobucket

Next time you find yourself in Williamsburg, VA, check out Chowning's Tavern. Come here for the history and atmosphere of an 18th Century alehouse founded in 1766. Good sandwiches are hard to come by in Williamsburg, so I'd suggest the Carolina BBQ pulled pork. Try it with homemade root beer or an old-style brown ale.

Croissant Club - The Lunch Box

Photobucket
The Lunch Box is a good spot for Club sandwiches. I prefer the Croissant Club with avocado, as opposed to the Classic on toasted sourdough. Both come with it all -- turkey, bacon, swiss cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, sprouts and mayo. Add honey mustard!

Chicken Curry Salad - The Lunch Box

Photobucket
The Lunch Box serves up the heavyweight of chicken curry salad sandwiches. I've had this particular sandwich a dozen times -- a very generous helping, the curry is delightful and consistent. Served on thickly sliced toasted cinnamon raisin bread, garnished with sprouts, green leaf lettuce and a touch of red onion -- this sandwich is worth getting to know.
